Stefan Sandner's show PROKRASTINATION at Museum 52 brings large scale painting from Vienna to the Lower East Side.
There is a trend of small scale abstract painting going on at the moment. Maybe it's due to the prevalence of painters like Tomma Abts and Thomas Nozkowski. Needless to say, it is refreshing to see Stefan Sandner's large scale paintings. More important than scale are the issues in Sandner's work: the willingness to take on painting itself by exploring the possibilities of abstraction; representation; and the use of text within the medium.
