There was something not quite right about this show and I've been wondering if anyone else feels the same. Something made these usually strong artists totally fall flat. Most of the works looked very similar and were on the same scale. It seemed catered, planned, and conceptualized specifically for the gallery rather than curated out of the artist's studios. Not to mention that the opening was crowded with art stars, rock stars, and suits. A very odd show in relation to a normally modest LES. I saw it as a sign that times are changing down there.
I think the show looks fantastic, you don't see a lot of shows in NY where it's a trio show of non-objective painters. It's nice for THE HOLE to be putting on shows like this.
