Studio Visit: Christopher Davison

While visiting Philadelphia a few weeks ago, KCLOG stopped by artist Christopher Davison's studio for a visit. His work reveals a deep personal narrative that he explores through drawing, painting, printmaking and sculpture.

New paintings and etching plates in progress

Recent works on paper

Davison's work space was arranged with recent ink wash drawings, paintings in progress, and a fresh set of etching plates. There were old photographs pinned to the wall alongside some of the works that are used not so much as a direct visual reference, but more to evoke a certain feeling and sense of place. The surface of the works utilize the immediate, venerable state of the materials, while offering a physically worked quality that reveals itself through various combination of cuts, marks, collage and washes.

While his etchings retain a more precise, linear quality to them, his collection of handmade books offer a raucous encyclopedia of possible colors, styles and subject matter.

DUMBO: Wade Kavanaugh & Stephen Nguyen

Brooklyn Oct 09: The Dirty Dirty, Pseudonymous.

Deep in the heart of Brooklyn, almost out to Conney Island, inside a small dark basement lies The Dirty Dirty. In this show Pseudonymous, artists were asked to make a work of art anomalously under a pseudonym. The artists include, Arnold Potsanspans, Beryl Read, Bizzy Weis, Bruce Springstone, Bucketman, Dr. James Watson, Goncarlo Sovandara, Henrik af Klint, KJV, Laszlo Moore, Mary Sue, Muschi, Penelope Fallsalot, Re:Cycle, Runs With Space, Sugar Monroe, Swisher Sweet and Willy Lamb.
